I have resolved the issue I was having. For those with the same problem read on...

...Just like the pre-SP2 Reporting Services has both a report server (i.e. http://servername/reportserver)...

Even without client options, in IE you can always hold the shift key while clicking, or alternatively, right click on the link and select Open in New Window.
