Definitely sounds like MDAC.
Use component checker (see link) to see what version of MDAC you have and, if necassary, reinstall.
You may find that you have disparate parts of MDAC...

Order of calculation is Brackets, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction.
Can't remember what the 'O' stands for!!!

Yes. A UDF. I knew there was a way of doing this.
Triggers aren't an option for political reasons rather than technical. The client frowns on triggers.

There are many such tools out on the market. Microsoft push their own product called Data Analyser although this isn't a zero-footprint tool.
Check out: MIS AG, ProClarity, Panorama....to name but...
