You could also put the query in the Excel spreadsheet using the external data source tool. Once that is done you could just refresh the spreadsheet on the fly.

Not really knowing the issue one thing might be your connection properties in T-SQL are different then the database settings.

Can you just set ANSI_Warnings off at the top of the SP?

The table name in the UPDATE can't be aliased in T-SQL or in Standard...
