Try to substitute the derived column transformation by adding the column in the OLE DB Source form the start and set the required conditions using Case statement.

seems that this issue was a bug and has been resolved by a hotfix. However it is better recommended to download the SQL 2008 R2 SP1 for that purpose.

I usually have 1 XML Config file for each package which includes all variables that I might need to edit... try doing that and avoid having multiple configurations per SSIS...

make sure that no expressions are assigned to the flat file connection manager as that will make the path of the file read the at runtime, thus at design time...

After creating the xml config, try opening it with ie just to see if it is corrupt or valid... also in SSIS design mode assign the config to the package...
