Read the Installing SQL Server in Books Online - look under Preparing... -> Configuring High Availability.
Biggest difference is that you need to create AD-group(s).

Hi why would you need to start all at the same time? Where do you backup to? Disk or tape? Anyway if you start 25 backupjobs at the same time...

When the databases stopped - did you have any issues with disk? Try restore again and monitor the physical/logical disk performance of the volume you have the data and logfiles....

The SAN guys told me that for disk performance the read/write I/O for SQL and Exchange where quite similar in patterns. But Fileshares where not so they tended to isolate...

How is your IIS configured? Is the service up and running? Check event viewer and IIS log for details - maybe iis is not contacted at all.

As a start (if you have no idea) - you can install SQL2000 on a virtual server and then run the upgrade advisor to see if obvious code errors apply....
