As far as I can tell, it is stored in the command column of msdb.dbo.sysjobsteps as an argument passed to master.dbo.xp_sqlmaint. Look for something like:
-DelBkUps 3DAYS

If you don't need to do transaction log backups, change the database recovery mode to SIMPLE. Otherwise, start taking regular transaction log backups and your transaction log won't grow wild....

Like another poster said, if it is your LDF that keeps growing then maybe you just have to take more frequent transaction log backups.
