How about just backing up msdb.

We'll take a look at that url. Currently we are sending Microsoft a collection of different profile logs, event logs and anything else that looks like it may help...

We use sp_OADestroy to release to objects.
We alos have not noticed anything interetsing in the Event Log - but will look again. The error Brian pointed me to was...

We do this sort of thing reasonably often and I agree with Frank that using DTS is the way to go.

WOuld something like this
Case When isdate(DateCol) = 1 then DateCol else Null end
work in a DTS extract?

I've knocked together this short script that I run from Master. Forgive any scripting stupidity - I'm not a DBA - but I think you get the general approach....

It appears that once detached the db is no longer know to SQL Server (or at least it looks that way to me). I'm taking the sledge hammer approach...
