Could I use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove old SQL install files? Do I select the MS SQL Server Setup Support Files in the utility to do this?

Hi,
I extracted the sqlncli.msi out of the SP3 package and copied and renamed the file to the c:Windows\Installer folder. Renamed the file to 18cecb4.msi. Ran the sqlncli.msi from another folder....

What I did was use Windows Installer Cleanup Tool and the SQL Server Install program to remove Express from the server. I have not tried the SP3 upgrade, yet.

Does this apply to SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on 64-bit servers? You post mentions fixing the SQL Server Express edition. Sorry for not making this clear in my post.
