Sometimes the questions are built on such 'mistakes' like this ALTER/CREATE PROCEDURE. Now it's a 'you should know that it's only meaningless failure'.
How can we decide which option to use?...

Actually the default answer is the only right answer: It depends.
You can't answer the question without knowing the data it is running on.

Does this not mean:
This view will eventually replace the fn_virtualservernodes function which will be deprecated in a future release
that the correct answer is the sys.dm_os_cluster_nodes view?
