thanks for the answer.
the view itself is very fast. The problem is with MS Access. I decided to set the view WITH (NOLOCK), that helped.

very interesting, your replies. I read that one have to avoid cursors wherever possible because of the performance.
a) But I think that with an expected affected recordcount of about 50...

executing the command manually worked properly. That is what made me mad. But also the if exists... works properly alone.
But I found it late saturday night!
