ahh... i understand.
however; for the moment MSDAORA is installed with SQL Server 2005, so do
you have any ideas about my original inquiry about why i can't see it...

here's something interesting...
when looking at the registry i can see MSDAORA
'hkey_local_machine', 'software\microsoft\microsoft sql server\mssql.l\providers'
why does Management Studio not reflect it under the Providers list???
any ideas?

it's an SQL 2005 64bit environment, but as to the Oracle environment i'm unaware of
what bit it it.

just a quick reminder here.
remember that you can only 'see' the dts packages (that is they are read-only)
even though you have the designer components, and can view...

i'm compelled at this point to reiterate about how sql will do the same when
looking into adjusting the affinity mask, or maxdop in sql.... however; i'm
not going to get hung...

nuts!
so basically if you migrate your DTS packages from a 2000 server to 2005 server,
you are essentially unable to edit the connection properties to point to your
NEW 2005 server....
