Never used this but tried host_name()
both with the braces and without and all erred out in both versions 7& 8 of sql server
Am I missing something?

The default databases except exceptionally used may not benefit from transaction log backups.

Use a Database maintenance plan to schedule a backup /
Alternatively
Right click on database in question select all tasks
and select backup database (at an appropriate time)
