I figured it out. When creating the synonym I needed two dots after linked server name:
CREATE SYNONYM FISVEND
FOR DOA_FANS..FIS.VENDORS_V
GO
However...running the query from openquery took 39 seconds to return 215,848...

Yes, they need access to the data source as they are going to be creating ad-hoc reports on their own.

I tried Browser only right and they cannot see the data source in SSRS, but they also cannot see the data source with Report Builder. I gave the group...

So replication will allow me to take one database with only 1 login and apply that to another database with multiple logins with wiping out said multiple logins?
