  • RE: BETWEEN a hard place and a rock

I found this one easy because we had another BETWEEN <high value> <low value> question a little while ago and that put me on the right track straight away.

default collation is choosen at installation process - so imo it could be CS_AS.

You can override the installation defaults when doing the installation. Then you...

  • RE: Usage of Null

    Danny Ocean (6/4/2013)

Really easy one. Just look the first if condition, it gives result as 'Statement1 : Not null'. Now only Option 2nd having this one. I don't need to...

  • RE: Helping MS Help Us

Would have voted on create/replace (one of the instances where Oracle is better than SQLServer) but voting has been closed for quite some time, or so it appears looking at...

Hi, this was a nice question, however I don't fully agree with the wording

For Smith, we don't substring it, since S is the first character

    SUBSTRING is still...

  • RE: EXCEPT - 1

    skanker (5/20/2013)

Thanks for the question. It might be easy for others, however I learnt something on this. I did not do my research first and thought it would...

  • RE: Assigning categories to values 2

Easy question for me. Dank je, Hugo.

    David Conn (5/23/2013)

    David

More to the point, it's a shame you don't get an error...

  • RE: Assigning categories to values 1

Good question. I'd hope I'd never write BETWEEN -1 AND -10 but it was easy to miss as an error/anomaly in someone else's code.

  • RE: Data Type

    Merci.

  • RE: Data Type

Is there a valid reason for creating the temp table this way instead of explicitly defining the columns? Excuse me if I'm asking a silly question but a lot...

  • RE: Our Race with Machines

    jay-h (5/8/2013)

In an ideal world, profit gets pumped back into the economy. To a reasonable degree this is true. Profits get invested, investment creates jobs. Even when profits go to...

  • RE: Timestamps

    Hugo Kornelis (5/6/2013)

And finally, to Steve - I know we've discussed this before, and I know it won't happen, but I just have to ask again. Can you please, please,...

  • RE: Upgrading to 2012

We're still trying to get our customers to move from 2000 & 2005 to 2008R2 so we're a long way from having to look at 2012. I'm betting we'll...

    John Mitchell-245523 (4/18/2013)

Are the exclamation marks in the explanation an expression of surprise, or are they supposed to represent factorials?

    John

Yes, an unfortunate bit of punctuation.
