Why not consider storing as a DATE data type and then convert to the said format when required. Don't understand why you would want to store as int? ...

In the past i've mentioned to Microsoft that the option to abort the rollback (leaving DB corrupt) in favour of a restore would be a handy option - albeit dangerous...

Totally agree with your thoughts on that: There is some wording associated with not using this as a substitute for real backups. Presumably any newbie would learn about backups...
