Did you try SQL Profiler to get a better idea where exactly it hangs?
It's a great tool let you see the inner workings of the SSAS engine.

You might have to run the Surface Config Wizard and add relevant Service Accounts.

Usually that's done by creating a Role within the Catalog where your cube's in.
Right click 'Roles' and then 'Add Role'.
