• is this a normal Availability group or a Distributed Availability group ?
• The Backup preferences is secondary or primary?
• How did you create the AG? Via the wizard or...

You can configure Read-only Routing URL and Read-only Routing List listing the servers in order.

E.g. If node 1 is primary. then the read-only routing list can be set up as

server3,server2,...

To give you a brief:

* Our overall user database : Transactions/sec have improved and CPU User time has decreased.
* PLE has almost doubled than SQL 2012 ENT.

No application changes. It's the same application, same version. Transactions for instance in total. Both the servers have 16 CPU and SQL Memory capped is same at 146 GB.
