Apparently if you just use SSMS from the subscriber (SQL 2012) side, you won't get the error:

Thanks for that link, it's really interesting. The DBCC in question that was hung was master, and iirc it was on checktable.

There's another version of the 2012 installer that comes pre-loaded with SP1 (SQL_Svr_..._Edition_2012_w_SP1). It might be worth trying in case it's an installer issue that was fixed in SP1.

I tried running "Extract Event Data..." from the trace and there's certainly additional information in the resulting xdl file.
I wonder if there's a bug in the UI?
