The most probably cause is that you use repair_fast and have a connect open.
Never use repair_fast in a job.
And you should log to file, als Greg explained.

I once ran into that.
I could enable them again in the Enterprise manager.
It was caused by a bug in SQLServer.
Either SP1 or SP2 solved that, I don't remember which one.

It seems the deinstall has disappeared.
You can try the dirty deinstall
1: Export the registry, in case you make a mistake.
2: Remove the registry key
HKLM\software\microsoft\mssqlserver
(SQLserver 7 and 2000 have the keynames...
