We have ran into this issue on several servers. This is the fix:

Start sql server in upgrade disabled mode

From the command prompt:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQL\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe" -sMSSQL -T902
