Mirroring can be expensive. It depends on what latency your business can live with.
In Finance it tends to be < 5 ms as loosing your primary business / trading platform...

I'd suggest setting 'lock pages in memory' against the account which is running the SQL services by using GPedit.

You set the SPN for each server and deletegate to the common account and off you go.

I have exactly the same issue. I only want to restore the primary partition (10gb) and not the whole 200gb database spread across multiple filegroups.
It doesn't seem to be possible...
