you are selecting 4 columns in your question (ID, Y, Test1, Test2) yet your answers and the supposed "correct" one only has 3

I also have a solution in the form of a view that you can join to that will display upline and down line structure depending on how it is joined...

You may also want to re-think using cursors and rather try approach it in...
