thanks all,
I guess excluding database files is the best solution. It's proven impossible to keep PC's clean without an up2date virusscanner online. (current worms in mind ...)

say: we have a group 'REPLI-CLIENTS' (NT)
and only want to define this group on te publishing database...

It really don't understand the filosify behind getting payed for standards-publications.
I thought they should spread as much as possible to become a standard,
But then again, I might be wrong of...

you could run profiler and check exactly what SQL server is doing / where the bottlenecks are.
