  • RE: The Patch Wild, Wild West

iOS devices being almost entirely consumer oriented, it makes sense in that environment to automate the process and make it as "easy" as possible, at the cost of control. If...

  • RE: Can This Work?

Interesting question, but like so many others, could have been worded better and/or used some vetting. I disagree with the answer, because the stored procedure does execute successfully 32 times...

  • RE: Why SQL Server?

I started off doing software development with Coldfusion and VB6/VB.NET in my first few jobs. Fortunately, the database was always SQL Server. Over time, I just gravitated towards working on...

    Bill Reynolds-362342 (2/28/2013)

The article re UPC structure needs updating and correcting ... the last 5 digits were never structured as described, at least in the companies we dealt with. Worse,...

    I don't understand Dohsan's reply.

What I'm sustaining is that there is no added value obtained in calculating the check digit by applying this extra 10-k rule. It provides...

    Dohsan (2/28/2013)

I believe the algorithm for calculating the check digit takes the difference between the 'weighted sum' and the nearest multiple of 10 that is equal or higher.

    if the sum...

In the algorithm for calculating the check digit, you have k = X mod 10. If k = 0 all is fine. Otherwise do 10-k. What do you...

He/she makes sure the spotlight is always on him/her and is quick to accept credit for team accomplishments. He/she is just as quick to assign blame to some individual...

    Peter Trevor (2/4/2013)

Many years ago I was in a team that had a manager who was prone to micro-manage. Usually we factored that in to our estimates but I...

  • RE: Cramming for Interviews

On the topic of cramming for interviews, I have an experience I'd like to share. At my office, we do semi-technical phone screens before we bring the person in for...

  • RE: Cramming for Interviews

Digression: agreed that cramming to exhibit skills you don't have is misrepresentation. Ironic that Microsoft themselves, in a way, encourage this misrepresentation by way of their poorly written certification exams...

  • RE: Why Allow Heaps at All?

    opc.three (12/28/2012)

Heaps are good storage structures for staging tables (tables that are truncated and reloaded regularly) where maintaining a clustered index would force the storage engine to store the incoming...
