What service pack are you on? There was a bug that was partially corrected in SP1 and fully corrected in SP2 that corrects this issue.

sys.master_files should give you a system wide catalogue of data and log files being used.

The Trans Log is backing up every 1/2 hour and truncates. We have tried to shrink the database, but it never reduces in size.
sp_spaceused shows me the following:
database_namedatabase_sizeunallocated space
mas500_app27825.81...
