Also, when you look at the backup device, both the expiredate and the retaindays set the expiredate when you look at the contents of the backup device.

Sorry, I mistook the information. The size is accurate when running the sp_helpfile. And that information is good enough for me.

sp_helfile does not display % used, and the "size" is not accurate either.

I saw applications that pull word list and other utilities, but did not see a word list. Could you please be more specific?

What version of SQL Server?
if 2000, you should be able to detach the database on test. Delete physical files. Do a restore from the backup you took....
