FWIW I was able to link from SQL200 to a SQL2008 default instance after some difficulty by using an IP address in place of the server name.

At the risk of sounding like a nit-picking pedant, in international English one says 'more quickly'.

I.e. 'my query runs more quickly', not 'my query runs quicker'

The days of grammatically correct...
