Absolutely not a setting to be made at the instance level. Routinely check the fragmentation levels, look for any repeat offending indexes that have high fragmentation and then gradually reduce...

Just bear in mind that if for whatever reason your databases are using the older compatibility level then the changes to the CE will not take effect.

I think "it depends" on what type of DBA you want to be.

So the fix appears to be simply install SP2 again.
I guess this is because a security hot fix was installed that supersedes SP2 in date, it has rolled...
