Thanks. I learned something useful here. I have a use for GZIP compression as its compatible with 2 different platforms that I'm using.

So far so good.
I now have SQL Server 2016 ( Developer ) running on Windows Server 2016.

I also don't use Datetime as it's not accurate enough. I use Date , Time & Datetime2 as these correspond to my other Database that I use ( DB2 )...

Where does this definition called "hardened" come from ? Is it an Installation Option ? Is it a setting somewhere ? Is it just local knowledge ?

It's interesting to note that it is assumed that the remote server is a SQL Server.
I use OpenQuery to retrieve data from a DB2 Database via a Linked Server.
