thanks for replying..im deleting backups older than 2 days...so any how iw ill be having 2 days of backups..do u still think there would be an issue if delete task...

hmm..well the backups are now not written to the tape..but they will eventually very soon...and if the backups fail anyhow the delete task wont execute..? i could be wrong..thanks..

i figured it out fromt he default trace..they had a job which was changing the recovery mode and then shrinking..i got that task removed..thanks..

it is just regular maintenance plan..yeah i will check other jobs..i would also try looking at the default trace..do u think that will give some information?

Gila thanks for replying...bakcup is done through maintenance plan..i just saw the eventvwr...i do see couple of times it does change the recovery to simple then back to full...im guessing...

krishna to better understand it..can i say that truncation means only flushing the committed transactions..so is it that truncation doesnt makes the log file empty?.i understand truncation will not resize..does...

krishna...this is my plan to manage the space for log files..there are couple of dbs in simple recovery mode and there log files are huge..i want to see wat size...

thanks Krishna..things look much better now...krishna tday i changed the recovery mode to bulk logged mode and will monitor if that helps..thanks..
