Thanks for the responses. I will pass it along. It appears to be a security issue only happening to laptop users coming in via the VPN.

No, checked for that. The Browser services is running on all systems where this is occurring.

Upgrading to a version later than SQL 2000 is not an option at this point. I simply have to get this thing moved from one data center to another...

We did get it done. It was SQL 2000 on the same server. Took 7 hours to restore 387G.

It's Windows 2003 Standard which is limited to 4G and SQL Server 2000 Standard which is limited to 2.

You might try taking the /3GB out leaving only the PAE. Sometimes the additional overhead of both switches causes some funky things.

Actually both failed. It just took me a while to figure out that SP2 was the reason the hotfix failed. It only failed on one node.

There's a stored proc on microsoft's site called sp_help_revlogins that will script all the windows and sql logins that are in master. Run that and save the output. ...
