There is no question that a SQL DBA is a sysadmin on the SQL Server.
But according to Elliott's response (and my research) sysadmin rights still would not allow...

I know that you can add a Group from the Active Directory with a Windows Authentication; this is not a problem.

It is very frustrating though; since I'm a SQL DB and have no control over these objects in SQL Server.
Did anybody have any luck with other approaches?

Unfortunately I cannot do it because this is a client's machine and even more; it is outside US.

To get the free space, I right click on the database, go to Tasks > Shrink > Files
I'm using the DBCC SHRINKFILE command.
