To my disappointment, the bcp utility is logged, appears to be fully. The -h switch with "tablock" seems to greatly improve performance; full logging appears to be minimal.

For SQL 2016 none of the above worked; I right-clicked the connection manager > paramaterize, and that solved all of the issues trying to use both the connectionstring and ExcelFilePath...

So did you settle on the 3rd party drivers, or figure out the connection. I'm using the Sybase.AdoNet2.AseClient and Destination and it's working ok.
