Check the DefaultData and DefaultLog values in the registry for the instance.

I have had similar issues to this when there have been problems on the O/S. For example no available memory left.

If all of the volumes are on the same physical disk you will not get any pefromance benefit out of seperating them.

If you are just after placing them on separate...
