From my personal Experience, I will say 'clustering'. But as stated above it depends upon several factors as to which method one should use for High Availability.

yeah , that has to be but under different environment where lets say servers has different numbers of CPUs. how exactly the TempDB configuration can impact after failover.

This generally happens immediately before you server bootsup or shutdown.
And
if somebody manually stoping the services from Service console.
As stated by other check the windows event logs for more details.

As already stated by others just do a a search for "SqlWb.exe" (if using 2005) or SSMS.exe (if using 2008) and change the path accordingly.
There shouldn't be any other problem.
