Set up monitoring on another server that can use mail. Use linked servers to read events, histories etc on the monitored machine(s) and send emails from the monitoring server.

If you don't install as a named instance, your default instance will be upgraded.

Another poorly screened question, and incorrect answer.
The Microsoft article mentioned http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=309422 does not say to exclude backups, and DOES add the directory c:\Windows\Cluster to exclude. And the Backup file...

Kind of bogus question. If you use Notification Services, each "application" is a service of its own also. How do you quantify that?
