Problem solved. I posted at TechNet forum and got an answer here. Actually, I was missing a SET NOCOUNT ON statement.

Thanks for your detailed reply. Its a nice idea to write formulae columns before populating the excel sheet so that the calculated columns give the correct values once the data...

Hmmm. I think I will have to do my calculations in the SQL query and just write the result set to excel.

Hi Robert,
Like SQL server pre-compiles stored prodecures, does it also pre-compiles UDFs or views.
