The one with the derived tables was faster and didn't do a table scan, it performed an Index Seek. It was only slightly faster with the derived tables on...

I think I just answered myself....In BOL for "LIKE" it does not mention anything about the {#} in pattern matching therefore I'm assuming you can't do it as I was...

We're using a C# Windows app which calls the stored proc and returns the data to a crystal reports viewer. We're using the function instead of the stored procedure...
