All too often with security issues on Production environments or time constrained developments, they will be fixed by adding the application user account to Local admin on the SQL Server...

Sounds to me like you scr*wed up and don't want to admit to someone that has a backup stored where you can't get it.

The production database has to have all the records in it, so partitioning doesn't work as you would have to restore the same config ie the same size to other...

We have a mixed environment and ODBC works fine in both. Have you checked the security and setup is the same on the 64 bit server?

Slightly confused, so you may need to clarify. If the users exist in the database on the primary server then they will exist in the database on the secondary....
