cheers for the above, but this is it the live table is a int and column name id but Iam using sql 2005 and in the "Identity Specification" section "No"...

I understand the data types that have to be allocated to a column but how does the storage size for eg. Int data type has 4 bytes allocated to it....

tried that and seriously it doen not make sense to me.......need plain english.....
