Not entirely sure what your asking but I don't believe Microsoft has released SP3 for SQL 2008!? SP2 can be installed if required which will take your build version...

Yes Anna, you would use the 'initial size' boxes to grow the data & log files accordingly. If you right-click on the database and go to Tasks, Shrink, Files...

Well i'm on Windows 7 using the SQL 2008 R2 Client tools and have NEVER had any problems connecting to any SQL 2000 instances.
Has this ever worked?

You should be able to connect to any SQL 2000 instance using your 2008 SSMS Client Tools regardless of whether you use the IP address or DNS resolution.

I presume you would want to test connectivity to the SQL box from your remote site?
Try connecting to it using the same methodology as if you were still located there......
