The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask.  I cannot do it either!!  Then I wondered where they got the icon for my login.

Well confused now as you referred to d:\ and i:\ drives before.  Are your physical hard drives full or near full?

Does your Sql Server operating system sit on one disc and your databases sit on another?  The only time I've had this error is when the physical disc is full...

No we haven't as yet; we were trying to assertain that it worked before we set it back. 

Should it be set back to a domain account?  We don't know...

Grasshoper got the spirit of my question right, though I appreciate anyone's thoughts.  The scenario I was thinking of has no initial problem; the bosses I'm thinking are not trying...

Its great that everyone offers similar advice. I particularly have used  the 'implement and see what happens approach'.
