I agree that you should only rebuild or reorganize indexes periodically. And only do the ones needed! I found some good scripts on this site to do just that....

Use your result of SELECT @@servername to put in the Registry Key.

Your SQL BINN should be a shared SAN Drive and you forgot your Quorum Drive too.. Work with your SAN Engineer to seperate your volumes across different LUNS!

Databases are meant to grow! You need space for the data and indexes, many problems come into play if you don't have sufficient room to grow and do proper...

As far as hardware goes, I think it is a Mgmt. decision and should be consistant throughout your datacenter!

You may want to try connecting by IP:Port? Could be a DNS issue?
