Another thing to watch is if you have an Antivirus software on the box, it tends grab files unless you have exclusions!

I agree there are no default jobs! I would establish your backup and recovery of databases. Next establish your database maintainence like index rebuilds, dbcc, and everything else.

From scratch too... When doing your backup use the verify option to ensure you have a good backup! Whether you do a single file backup or multiple files.

If you right click on a table and go to properties it displays the create date of the table.

If you use SSMS and detach the database there is an option to close all connections.
