I have to ask: Why would someone design a database with a table containing 275 columns? I can't imagine a valid business reason for doing this.

It's not a good idea to grant any additional rights to the Public. The preferred method is to:
1. Use Windows Athentication. Hopefully you are doing this.
2. Create a Windows group.

We had this same problem with log (.txt) files, and never did find a solution.
You could try running the following as a Schedule Task:

You may run into an issue with Identity columns. We had an issue with this a few years ago when we stopped replication and tried to use the subscriber databases...

If you're not currently running replication, you probably won't have any problems moving the distribution database files.
If you were actively running replication, I'd try this:
