  • RE: Cannot start SQL Server

The account has full rights on the SQL folder and subfolders (and tempdb.mdf) and relevant regostry keys so that's not the problem.

The Enterprise Manager advice sounded promising  so I changed the...

  • RE: Windows Authentication - local groups versus global groups

Thanks Shawn, I've had a quick look at the article and it sounds plausible. So it's down to my misunderstanding of the difference between   global and local Windows groups - a little knowledge...

  • RE: Configuring a Sybase Linked Server

No experience on 2005 but we have several Sybase Linked Servers on our SQL Server 2000 boxes. No XML Options but we can't get the 'Simple Provider' to work.

    Instead...

  • RE: New Instances

I doubt there is anything wrong with sp_password or Change Password in EM so look more closely at what you are doing. Are other  people definitely connecting to this instance as...

  • RE: Any logs store this!!!

    Hi Pavan

No logs store this information I'm afraid. As it's a Development Server I guess several people have sysadmin access which makes your detective work harder.

  • RE: change dts pkg name

It's not possible to change DTS package names - strange but true. Craig's Save As... suggestion is the best workaround that I know.

or even sloppy coding (sloppy message posting as well).

  • RE: 3rd Party Report Tools

I would also advise caution with MS Access, even with 'expert' users, in fact, especially with expert users as they're the ones who write the complicated queries.

  • RE: Backups & Log Files on Shared Server

Sorry to be blunt and I know you are new  but this 'policy' is REALLY DUMB. The data files won't back up unless the SQL Server is shut down, even...

  • RE: Transfer data from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2000 continuosly

I can only echo Gabor's comment - why are you doing this? 50 Mb a minute is 3 Gb an hour, 72 Gb a day, 2 Tb a month, 24 Tb a...

  • RE: The DBA Whoops

There must have been something in the air yesterday, I did exactly the same thing! Working quickly under pressure on a production system I ran an update but..... didn't highlight the last...

  • RE: Drop Out Or Graduate?

I value a 'relevant' college education (e.g. CompSci, Maths) very highly. I ended up in IT after a general social sciences degree and then, after several years, did a part...

  • RE: Can you order by on datename?

That set of functions starting with CHARINDEX is clever! I've already cut & pasted it into my box of tricks.

  • RE: need to find useless databases

Profiler is very useful but it produces a lot of output, you will have to experiment with the filters to produce useful results. Maybe do a few databases at a...

  • RE: Query to remove duplicates from a table ? ?

I would use the REPLACE function to remove blanks from the address and postcode:

    REPLACE(address1, ' ', ''), REPLACE(postcode, ' ','')

but I can guarantee there will still be loads of duplicates...
