I ran the select statement and the result was immediate.
Yes indexes have been applied to those columns.
any more ideas?

Hi Chris and all fellow concerned DBAs,
I have obtained an 'unofficial' fix for the AWE bug in SP4-I am going to run tests today and I will keep you posted.
