  • RE: Another Interesting Always On Question

It's not that it's expected; more of a nice to have.

Everyone is very much aware of our limitations on this and that it is a big request; I just thought...

  • RE: Another Interesting Always On Question

    Thanks Perry,

The data in the second data centre will not be used regularly; but we do perform a DR test once a quarter, so every 3 months at the very...

  • RE: Another Interesting Always On Question

It's been a long while since I've used log shipping to be honest; I wasn't aware that it was a 2-way process.

Assuming I went forward with log shipping, have you...

  • RE: Advice for cross-site clustering

    Thanks so much Perry!

I will certainly go through each step. I've just been told I need to pop over to our office in the EU for 2 weeks so...

  • RE: Advice for cross-site clustering

    Yes exactly:

    AG1

    --Node 01-Primary

    --Node 02-Secondary, Syncronous commit.

    --Node 03-Secondary, Syncronous commit.

    --Node 04-Secondary, Asyncronous commit.

    --Node 05-Secondary, Asyncronous commit.

    --Node 01-Secondary, Syncronous commit.

    --Node 02-Primary.

    ...

  • RE: Advice for cross-site clustering

Sorry Perry, I dropped the ball on terminology there. It will be multiple AG's, not listeners. I had it in my head that the groups were 1 to...

  • RE: Advice for cross-site clustering

    Thanks Perry,

This is where it starts to get a little complex; my goal is to not have a designated 'primary' replica. The intention is to have the listeners spread...

  • RE: Advice for cross-site clustering

This is a basic overview of what I want to achieve with this upgrade.

  • RE: Advice for cross-site clustering

My plan was to have the availability groups split across all the 3 nodes at each site. Each server will act as the primary for a portion of the...

  • RE: Advice for cross-site clustering

Thanks again Perry, I'm just leaving the office, I'll get back to you a little later.

  • RE: Advice for cross-site clustering

I agree that I may be over engineering this slightly; but I would like to be able to move everything from one site to the other without any huge hit...

  • RE: Advice for cross-site clustering

Not a true DR; sorry for the confusion...it just get's thrown around by management so much I tend to use it myself.

Both sites are true working sites; but no database...

  • RE: Migration of AlwaysON database 2012 to 2014

Perry's solution is a good one, but there are a few variables that need to be addressed for it to work:

Is the database you're migrating the only one in the...

  • RE: Advice for cross-site clustering

    I did not intend to.

My plan was to install stand-alone instances of SQL Server on top of a Windows Failover cluster; and use Always On HA. I wasn't aware...

  • RE: Memory

    Fair enough.

When i say "given points" I mean those who selected the correct answer (None of the above) should be awarded.
