I've found that indexes don't get replicated with SQL Server 2005 Transactional Replication that's set up as a No Sync Publication.
I haven't tested for a Full Sync Publication though.

However; you have to loop through all of the Subscriptions first and run the sp_DropSubscription for each of the Subscriptions and then run the sp_DropArticle at the end only once...

Does SQL Server actually reserve the space on the disk for the field if it is varchar(8000) and only 100 characters are used?
