yep- that was my exact understanding. OS admin was trying to basically say "it can't be done" because there is only one disk... I think he just didnt want...

retention period was initially set to infinate- which was definitely a contributor to the problem. I've been gradually decreasing the retention period over time.

everything I've read indicates that a second instance must have it's own resource disks. Where were you able to find information indicating otherwise? Any documentation supporting that configuration?

default trace and blackbox trace are recording specific events- they are basically the same as running a profiler trace, but without the flexibility of specifying exactly which events you want...

.\administrator is the same as hostname\administrator. '.' just means "local host". I would not say .\administrator is any worse than using hostname\administrator.
